Natural Colour Dyeing of Indigo

Process for preparation of Indigo

Firstly, we have to make a cement pit for nearly 10 feet depth, such that it holds nearly about 1000 lits. of water in it. In this 1000 lits. water some of the following items should be mixed in proportion which is as follows :

INDIGO - 1kg
JAGGERY - 2kgs
CALCIUM - 4-5 kgs.(good quality)

Step 1: Mix the mixture well and close the lid of the pit.On regular interval basis , please open the lid and see whether ,the water becomes yellow. If it is so, it denotes that Indigo is ready for dyeing.

Step 2: Now if you want to dye the cloth add around 150 gms. of NATURAL INDIGO in the above mixture( this 150 gms. of Indigo is required for 36 meters of wet cloth). For further every 36 meters dyeing of cloth you require 150 gms. of Indigo. For example , today is Monday , so for the process 150 gms. of Indigo in the pit should be done on Sunday evening itself.

Note :

Step 1, the dye bath can be kept for a long time. For every 36 meters of cloth, you have to add 150 gms. of Indigo. This can be repeated several times.
